Authorization Letters - How to Legally Authorize Something

Authorization Letters authorize someone to do tasks for you that normally require your presence to get them done. These tasks are more than picking up dry cleaning. They are used to authorize someone else to make important decisions for you. Take writing these letters very seriously. In order to have many important errands in life accomplished by others, a professional authorization must be written. Examples such as signing for important documents on a professional level or picking up children from day care on a personal level will definitely require these letters. Many establishments will have their own but some may ask that you draft one for them.

Wording

1. Our example above words this letter professionally ensuring that whoever the reader happens to be will understand that this is strictly business.
2. In our letter, after the opening paragraph and list of items, we’ve remarked that the named person can make decisions for us but we gave a contact number for us in the event unforeseen events arise.

Format
1. Use the Full Block format arrangement for Authorization Letters:
a. to the left margin of the letter header place the return address
b. make two carriage returns
c. directly below the return address, place the date
d. make two carriage returns
e. directly below the date, place the reader’s address
f. make three carriage returns
g. if necessary, include a reference line
h. begin your letter
i. begin each paragraph at the left margin
j. place the closing, signature and typed signature at the left margin.

Tone
1. Ensure your tone is professional and straightforward throughout the letter.

Email
1. With time being as critical to everyone as it is, sending an Authorization Letter via email is now becoming increasingly more accepted.
a. Send your letter in the same format as you would for snail mail - this conveys to the reader that you took the time to create a professional correspondence.
b. Depending on the circumstances, send the message from the appropriate email account: personal email account for a personal correspondence, professional email account for professional correspondence.

Printing
1. Before printing, decide on what paper to use. For Authorization Letters, common bond paper will work.
2. Print your letter and envelope on the same printer using the same font and an envelope that matches the stationery.

Signature
1. Make three carriage returns between the closing and your typed signature. Inside this space, sign your name for professional correspondence. For personal correspondence, there is no need for a typed signature. Simply, sign your name.

Taking Panoramic Landscapes - The Easy Solution

I love panoramas. There’s something very appealing about their
shape. It’s probably because we see the world more in these
dimensions than the near square format of standard film/sensor
frames. It might also explain the upsurge in the popularity of
widescreen TVs!

Panoramas have a reputation of being hard to take. There are
dedicated panorama cameras available but unless you’ve got at
least a thousand dollars to spare, you probably can’t afford
one! But you can take panoramas with any kind of camera.

All a panorama is, is a sequence of images where you turn
slightly for each different frame. In the old days, before PCs
and the likes of Photoshop were around, you’d take your prints
(there wasn’t much point in shooting panoramas on slide film,
for obvious reasons), lay them out on a table and position them
over each other where they overlapped. A bit of sticky tape held
them together. [As a side note, this technique was used by NASA
to build up mosaic pictures of the planets and satellites their
spaceprobes visited, up till the late ’70s/early 80s when
computers were introduced to make the process less
laborious].

Now that PCs and image manipulation packages are easy to come
by, high-quality panoramas can now be created by anyone. If
you’re shooting slide or negative film, you will need to have
your images scanned before you do anything else.

DIY Panoramas

The idea behind taking panoramas with SLR cameras is that the
camera is rotated around its nodal point during each successive
exposure. What’s the Nodal Point? It’s the point inside your
camera where the light rays converge and flip over. It’s
different for different focal lengths (on zoom lenses) and for
different prime lenses (fixed focal length lenses like a
standard 50mm lens). It’s important to rotate about this point
to eliminate image mismatches due to changes in parallax.
Parallax is the apparent shift of an object against a background
due to a change in observer position.

Just to be clear, the Nodal Point is not the same as the
film/sensor plane. Generally, for most SLR cameras and lenses,
the Nodal Point is located somewhere towards the center of the
lens barrel and lies in front of the image/sensor plane.

The Problem With Parallax

Parallax is easily demonstrated by a simple experiment. Hold up
your finger about 1 foot in front of your face and alternately
open and close your left and right eyes. You’ll notice that your
finger shifts left and right with respect to the background
depending on which eye is open. Try another experiment: With
your finger still raised, close one eye and turn your head from
side to side. Notice how your finger moves with respect to the
background. This relative movement is due to the fact that
you’re not rotating your head around your eye’s nodal point,
which is somewhere in the center of your eyeball. Instead,
you’re rotating about your spine which is several inches to the
rear and off to one side. It is this relative side-to-side
motion that we try to eliminate when setting up a camera for
panoramas. [If you want to read up more about parallax, Wikipedia have a
good explanatory article.]

Now, if you consider a camera held up to your face - it will
suffer even greater parallax errors as it’s farther from your
spine (the point of rotation of your head) than your eye. It’s
surprisingly common for people to take panoramas in this fashion
and then find the individual pictures don’t match up.

So use a tripod and rotate the camera on the tripod. The
parallax errors will be significantly smaller but there will
still be some error involved. However, the images will match up
better than with the head rotation method.

Mechanical Contraptions

What perfectionists strive for is to have the camera rotate
about the nodal point. There are brackets and contraptions
available that will let you offset your camera from the tripod’s
axis of rotation and with a little experimentation and trial and
error, you can position your camera so that its nodal point is
directly over the axis of rotation of the bracket. Getting this
spot-on means your images should line up perfectly.

A few months ago I bought such a bracket - the Kaidan Kiwi. This
comes in two halves which produce an L-shaped bracket. Its
instruction manual explains how to set it up and find the nodal
point for your camera and lens. However, you have to get your
tripod perfectly level before using it, otherwise you end up
with a curved panorama rather than a straight one.

I’ve had good success using this bracket, but it is large and
heavy and certainly a bit too cumbersome to be carrying on long
walks or while away on vacation.

AutoStitch To The Rescue

Then I recently came across a free bit of software called
AutoStitch. Written by a couple of students at the University of
Columbia, this takes all of the heartache out of creating
panoramas. All you do is select the size of the final image and
tell it what images you want it to stitch. It then goes off and
produces your panorama.

It really is that simple. Unless successive images are radically
different in exposure (i.e. one image to too light or dark
compared to another), it seamlessly blends them. It performs all
the warping of the images necessary to get them to align (other
software I’ve used can cause ghosting in the overlap areas where
it hasn’t quite aligned the images). It also aligns multiple
rows of images rather than just a single strip.

Even better, it doesn’t require you to set up your camera to
rotate about its nodal point. When I was in Crete last year, I
tried shooting a few panoramas with my Canon EOS 300D held up to
my eye (I didn’t have a tripod with me). When I got home, I
tried stitching the pictures together using various bits of
software (including software dedicated to stitching images
together) and didn’t get satisfactory results. I knew, though,
that it was because I’d swivelled the camera about my spine. But
I tried these images with AutoStitch and they came out
perfectly. See for yourself here.

I went walking up the Wicklow mountains in Ireland no too long
ago and up to a high point called Djouce which offers a view
over the rolling hills south of Dublin. As an experiment, I shot
8 frames while rotating my head about the scene (camera to eye
as per normal). I wanted to see if the Crete photos were a fluke
as the panoramas from there were composed of, at most, 3 frames
each (sometimes 2).

Conclusion

What can I say? I plugged 8 frames into AutoStitch and after a
bit of time processing the images, it produced a perfect
panorama with no ghosting I could see in the overlap reasons. I
like software like that. It may only do one thing but it does
that one thing very well.

Give Au
toStitch a try. It’s free and, so far, it produces the best
panoramic results of all the panorama/stitching software I’ve
tried.

One thing to remember when taking panoramas is that the
exposures of each frame should be the same. So if you make your
first exposure at f/8 and 1/125 of a second, take them all using
those settings. Yes, you will have to put your camera into
manual mode. Otherwise, you run the risk of having radically
different exposures for your images. For example, if you’re
panning over a landscape that contains water, like a lake, any
sunlight reflected off the water may make your camera take a
shorter exposure than for the other frames in your sequence.
Setting your camera to manual mode will prevent that.

The Question: How Much to Spend on an Engagement Ring?

The answer to this is a personal decision to be made by the people it affects: the betrothed couple. In many cases, the man still makes the actual purchase. However, the amount paid will impact the joint finances of the future couple.

The term “two months salary” as how much to spend on an engagement ring is an entirely arbitrary statement, invented in part by the industry itself. There is no justification to get into debt to purchase a ring. A large diamond in a costly metal does not symbolize greater love and commitment. People need to consider their priorities and budgets to allot the right amount for this important purchase. There are also things like insurance and costs to maintain an expensive piece of jewelry.

So how much will he spend for an engagement ring? The average costs for an engagement ring is $3,500 to $4,000. The price varies with the size and quality of the diamonds and gems, the type of metal chosen for the setting and the intricacy of the design. You will pay $125 to $500 for a quarter carat or less, set in 10 to 14 carat gold .It will set you back $500 to $750 for a slightly larger stone or possibly an 18 carat gold setting. If you can spend $750 to $1,000 you will get stones between .3 and .5 carats, some with platinum or 18 carat gold setting and possibly AGS/GIA-certified.

At the higher end, you can $1,000 to $2,000 for AGS/GIA-certified, high quality stones between .30 and .57 carats or mid to high quality stones up to .75 carats. For $2,000 to $3,500 for stones from .4 to 1 carat in 14 or 18 carat gold although the 1 carat stones may have some imperfections. Next on the scale at $3,500 to $5,000 you can get a quality 1 carat stones in 18 carat or platinum settings.

No-one should plan on spending more than $5000, unless he is independently wealthy. If your beau finds himself drifting to the higher end of the ring counter, make sure that he is not mistakenly weighing his love for you in carats, or under the influence of a wily salesperson. After all, Richard Burton gave Liz Taylor a 69 carat diamond, which is the size of a golf ball. We all know how that turned out!

Before your fiance or both of you embark to the glittering world of the jewelry store, prepare yourself. Get him to talk to his friends and find out where they got their rings and how much they think he should pay. Decide how much to pay for an engagement ring and stick with the plan. Browse magazines. Window-shop. Check out the internet. Have a girls-night-in and eyeball all of your friend’s rings. Get a good idea on what you want but don’t get fixated on a particular style of ring. You may end up paying too much to fulfill a fantasy.

And if you are starting your marriage with humble resources, you can always choose a ring that matches your current budget and upgrade to something fancier when your ship comes in. In any case, have fun with this purchase. Don’t worry about how much you should spend for your ring! Chances are that whatever you end up with will be perfect as the reflection of your love!

One Focus To Success

Too many times we are distracted from our main goal and purpose by all of the different things out there that we want, or think we want. Instead of making choices, we seem to want it all, everything we come across. Too many conflicting desires is a recipe for disaster.

With every goal which does not align with our main definite goal or purpose, our percentage chance to achieve it goes down. With dilution, our focus and concentration lose strength, and we lose momentum with each direction change.

Another potential downside to having too many goals and not attaining them, is the potential negative hit to our self image. This could be disempowering in the long term if not put into it’s proper perspective.

So what do we do? Hold our desires in check? Forget about all those other things we want?

No way! Never isolate yourself from your desires. Bond with them, make them important, and “do or die” - “what ever it takes”. You can happily move towards their achievement. Timing and Strategy may change but the goal is in the bank.

First thing to do right now is DECIDE that wanting more is OK. This is a very human thing and it drives progress.

Napoleon Hill stated that ‘The Master Key To Riches’ was the development of a burning desire for the achievement of a major definite purpose. (loosely quoted, but this is true)’

Riches’ do not just include money or things, but everything that enriches our lives, and this is different for everyone.

Now to take ‘Nappy’ literally, one would have to have a single focus that they would develop into a Magnificent Obsession, again nothing negative about this.

If you want several different things all at once, and if you do not have a plan for their attainment, then, it is likely that it will split your focus in too many directions, and you will achieve none of them.

However . . . if you connect them up by going after a single massive undertaking which when achieved gets you all of the above, then your focus would be laser sharp and your concentration would be unbroken. And you would have all of the objects of your desire!

Now, if you do not have a Single Massive All Encompassing Focus, then, a substitute plan would be to list all that you want on paper. Then, start arranging them in order of importance to you. Most important on top, least important on bottom.

Decide what is most important to you. If that is difficult, then start eliminating those goals you can do without. (eliminate them just like those reality shows do) You will be left by default with the most important goal to go after. As for the others, Go after them one at a time.

Either way you will come out with a single focus so that you can plan a strategy to attain it. And your power will be centered and your momentum will build towards achieving what you want.

Take it for what it’s worth . . .

Taking the Time to Find a Homeowner Loan UK

Trying to find a good homeowner loan UK can end up being quite confusing at first. The commercials and advertisements that you usually see for a homeowner loan UK use terms like “equity” and “collateral” that you might not fully understand… and yet there’s no real explanation to be found within the advertisement.

Obtaining a homeowner loan UK with good interest rates and reasonable terms doesn’t have to be confusing, though… with a little bit of fact finding and comparison, your loan experience can be both easy and rewarding.

What is a homeowner loan UK , anyway?

A homeowner loan UK is a loan that is made by a bank or other finance company to an individual that owns a house or real estate and uses the value of that real estate to provide a guarantee (known as collateral) that they’ll repay the loan.

The homeowner loan UK itself can be used for a wide variety of purposes… anything from consolidating various debts into a single monthly payment to offsetting educational or travel expenses.

This versatility makes these loans very useful to anyone who owns their home and is in need of a little extra money to cover their expenses.

What is equity?

Equity is a measure of exactly how much money a homeowner has invested into their home or real estate.

It is an indication of the percentage of the mortgage (or loan used to purchase the house or real estate) that has been repaid, and is generally considered to be the percentage of the house that the homeowner actually “owns.”

For a homeowner loan UK , the equity of the property is used as the loan collateral and determines the maximum amount that the lender will allow the homeowner to borrow.

The amount of equity that a person has in their home can also influence the interest rate that they’re charged for their loan and the repayment terms that they’re offered.

How do you shop for a loan?

Unless you know that you’re getting the best deal on your homeowner loan UK , it’s usually not a good idea to accept the first loan offer that you receive.

Instead, you should “shop around”, visiting several banks and finance companies and requesting a loan quote for your homeowner loan UK .

This allows you to compare the interest rates and loan repayment terms that the various banks and other lenders offer you, and gives you a chance to choose the loan with the interest rate and terms that are right for you.

By shopping and comparing loan rates before committing to a specific lender, you can save both money and repayment time in the long run.

Data Discovery vs. Data Extraction

Looking at screen-scraping at a simplified level, there are two primary stages involved: data discovery and data extraction. Data discovery deals with navigating a web site to arrive at the pages containing the data you want, and data extraction deals with actually pulling that data off of those pages. Generally when people think of screen-scraping they focus on the data extraction portion of the process, but my experience has been that data discovery is often the more difficult of the two.

The data discovery step in screen-scraping might be as simple as requesting a single URL. For example, you might just need to go to the home page of a site and extract out the latest news headlines. On the other side of the spectrum, data discovery may involve logging in to a web site, traversing a series of pages in order to get needed cookies, submitting a POST request on a search form, traversing through search results pages, and finally following all of the “details” links within the search results pages to get to the data you’re actually after. In cases of the former a simple Perl script would often work just fine. For anything much more complex than that, though, a commercial screen-scraping tool can be an incredible time-saver. Especially for sites that require logging in, writing code to handle screen-scraping can be a nightmare when it comes to dealing with cookies and such.

In the data extraction phase you’ve already arrived at the page containing the data you’re interested in, and you now need to pull it out of the HTML. Traditionally this has typically involved creating a series of regular expressions that match the pieces of the page you want (e.g., URL’s and link titles). Regular expressions can be a bit complex to deal with, so most screen-scraping applications will hide these details from you, even though they may use regular expressions behind the scenes.

As an addendum, I should probably mention a third phase that is often ignored, and that is, what do you do with the data once you’ve extracted it? Common examples include writing the data to a CSV or XML file, or saving it to a database. In the case of a live web site you might even scrape the information and display it in the user’s web browser in real-time. When shopping around for a screen-scraping tool you should make sure that it gives you the flexibility you need to work with the data once it’s been extracted.

Todd Wilson is the owner of screen-scraper.com (http://www.screen-scraper.com/), a company which specializes in data extraction from web pages.

Control Your Own Destiny

“You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.”
-Brian Tracy

In order to make choices that may change your destiny, you must first know yourself and what you are creating moment by moment. What you do in the present moment brings you closer to being in command of your destiny. When you focus on past experience and the knowledge you’ve gained from school, work, society, economic, and spiritual training, you can begin to know yourself.

Human nature is created so that you can choose your destiny, and then control it. The key is to be one of the few who know where you are going and exactly how to get there. To do this, you must realize that life is changeable. With each change along the way you develop experience. You enrich your learning.

Since your life is always in a constant state of creating and developing, you create your own story by choosing the direction you want it to take. With any one decision, you can change your destiny. You have the power to do this: it is called making choices. Without it you’d just be following the masses and letting others control your destination.

The repetition of certain thoughts also plays a huge part in determining your destiny. This is why it’s most important to be aware of what and how you think. Some thoughts that may bear repeating include:

  • To always show positive feelings toward others. Negative thoughts and feeling are limiting.
  • To know you’re smart even if it takes you a little longer to understand a point.
  • To know that failures can lead to success.
  • To welcome problems - they are learning tools.
  • To know that there is untapped skill and creativity in everything you attempt.
  • To remember that God put you on earth to win.
  • To know that prosperity comes to those who believe it will happen.
  • That giving quality service to your customers may result in a quantity of customers.
  • To know that valuing your own self and making a commitment to excellence is worth striving for.
  • To treat others with respect and kindness is a measure of your spirituality.

And as you keep these thoughts uppermost in your mind, you have the power to be guided by them. Yet, just knowing without thinking how you respond to life is the art of self-awareness and living in the present moment. Being aware of each moment is a part of your true being

Other ways to measure the power of your thoughts is to limit any thoughts that are non-productive. Some of these non-productive thoughts may include:

  • Feeling guilty when you say, “No.” Refusing to cater to the demands of others is not a selfish act. Saying, ‘yes, when you mean ‘no’ may cause resentment.’
  • Feeling ’stupid’ when you don’t understand something - Rather then make a mistake when instructions are not clear, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification. This is a sign of good judgment.
  • Thinking that everything you do is solely your own doing. Be confident and have enough faith to know that your life is guided by a higher power. This confirms your spirituality.
  • Ignoring opportunities to change - Growth comes with change. Life is a constant state of change. Be ready for any worthwhile challenge or opportunity to grow.
  • Worrying - Some of the best opportunities are missed when you worry and procrastinate until the opportunity has come and gone. Learn to be decisive. What’s the worst possible scenario? How hurt would you feel if you missed a great opportunity?

Whatever you do, and wherever you are in life, pay attention to your thoughts. Any sign of negativity, anger, fear, or procrastination is harmful. Get rid of biased opinions. Be open to other ways of thinking. Make the best of your thoughts and your thoughts will make the best you.

Then, let your new founded self-awareness lead you to a life where you are free to choose and to control your own dreams and goals. That’s your destiny.
